Hiking and Outdoor Adventures

Each year from June through October we open our doors to a variety of hiking and outdoor adventure groups. The Round Hearth serves as our groups base lodge with incredible offerings including the following:

  • Affordable and low priced packaged group rates
  • 24 Hour on-site support management
  • Two of Stowe's largest outdoor hot tubs
  • Billiard Parlor and Mount Mansfield T.V. & Meeting Space Room
  • Home-cooked ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT meals
  • B.Y.O.B privileges for all responsible groups at no additional cost
  • Local hiking tour guides and maps
  • Large indoor hearth, cozy atmosphere and group camaraderie all under one roof!

The Round Hearth is conveniently located just off the Mountain Road in historic Stowe, Vermont. Just minutes from local trails, the Round Hearth is the ideal place to host your groups upcoming outdoor wilderness retreat or event. Groups from across the United States and Canada continue to patron the "hearth" year-after-year which is a true testament to our staff's commitment to making each and every group feel comfortable and at home.

Our unique atmosphere and lodge amenities offer all our groups strong team and community building. The Round Hearth has been a true icon in Stowe for over the past seventy years and we continue to build upon our already great customer service. As Vermont's Most Famous Ski Dorm, the hearth provides a great blend of affordable lodging and amenities with great group commitment for all types of groups year round.

We can tailor any package to meet your groups specific needs. 

There are several trails and mountain hikes just in Stowe alone. Additonally our close proximity to Smugglers’ Notch Road bypass to nearby Jeffersonville (from May-October weather permitting) allow groups a wide array of additional outdoor adventure & wilderness seeking activities.  Right outside our door is easy access to the Stowe Recreational Path and the Weissner Woods.

EASY HIKES

Moss Glen Falls Hike and Waterfall
Distance: 1 Mile
Time: 45min - 1 hour
Climb: 200 Feet
Description: This is a short, scenic hike to a spectacular waterfall

Wiessner Woods
Distance: 2.8 Miles
Time: 2 Hours
Climb: 900 Feet
Description: Beautiful walks through miles of gentle trails

Sunset Rock
Distance: 1 Mile
Time: Less than an hour
Description: Take a break at the bedrock outcropping and enjoy the view of Main Street, as well as the kettle hole nearby

MODERATE HIKES

Stowe Pinnacle (Elevation: 2,651 ft.)
Distance: 2.8 Miles
Time: 3 Hours
Climb: 1520 Feet
Description: Hike is relatively short, but steep with breathtaking views of Camel's Hump, Mt. Mansfield, the Worcester Range, and the Sterling Range

Sterling Pond Trail
Distance: 2 Miles
Time: 2 Hours
Description: This is a great hike on a very well maintained trail. Hiking the loop around of the pond (adding 1.4 miles to the distance), now called Snuffy's Trail/Long Trail, accesses the trail to the elephant's head rock formation (.8 of a mile one way).

Taft Lodge / Mt. Mansfield via the Long Trail
Distance: 3.4 miles to Taft Lodge (4.6 Miles to the Chin)
Time: 4 Hours to Taft Lodge (5 Hours to the Chin)
Climb: 2,790 Feet to the Chin
Description: This is a popular section of the Long Trail system, with a steady climb to Taft Lodge just below the Chin, and a popular place for overnight backpackers.

EXPERT TRAILS

Gondola & Cliff Trail to the Summit of Mt. Mansfield
(Vermont's Highest Peak-4,393 Feet)
Distance: 1.6 Miles from the top of the Gondola Lift
Time: 2 Hours
Climb: 750 Feet
Description: Hike up the ski trails or take the Gondola to the Cliff Trail. It is a short, steep climb to the ridge, then .4 miles to the chin along the summit. Great views all the way. Ride the Gondola or hike back down to your car.

Harrington's View Trail - Long Trail North
Distance: 6.6 Miles
Time: 4 - 5 Hours
Description: This isn't a technically difficult hike but the length of this trail makes it an advanced hike

Hellbrook Trail
Distance: 3.6 Miles
Time: 4 Hours
Climb: 2,590 ft
Description: This VERY STEEP, expert-hiking trail is often extremely wet and should only be used for accent, not decent

Whiteface Mountain
Distance: 5.8 Miles
Time: 6 Hours
