The "Round Hearth" Fireplace
Curious as to why we named our lodge The Round Hearth? Once you come in, you will be welcomed by our large "Round Hearth" fireplace! The "hearth" has seen many murals and paintings on its ironside. The most current mural was painted on at the turn of the century by a local artist and has a 'Michelangelo' feel with skiing cherubs and URRI, the mythical God of Winter. In its nearly seventy year history, many stories, great conversations, music, and memories have been made around this iconic centerpiece of Stowe. After a long day of skiing or riding at the slopes, grab your favorite pillow or blanket, cup of hot cocoa and let the hearth embrace you with its warm fire.
We have two separate single-sex dormitories at The Round Hearth; mostly to accomodate our youth group trip "Golden Rule" of Boys on one side and Girls on the other, offering our groups blocked egress. Light's out is typically by 11:00 pm unless otherwise coordinated with our General Manager, Night Manager, and all Group Leaders.
In 2009 we invested a significant amount of money into updgrades of our lodge to meet all local fire safety & NFPA standards to ensure all our guests are safe! For our chaperones peace of mind, we strictly enforce a 100% smoke free and substance free environment. We offer around the clock management and staff support to all our groups. In the winter months, our night manager performs dorm checks every 15-20 minutes throughout the night to "shepherd" the kids and ensure our guests comfort & safety all night long.
Dorm rooms (each named for a famous trail at Stowe) sleep 6-8 kids per room. Groups never share rooms with other groups and our staff works very closely with each group to carefully coordinate their rooming assignments.
Our Chaperone Rooms offer semi-private bathrooms and sleep just 4-6 per room and are separate from the student dormitory. Our expectation is to have 1 chaperone for every 10 students to ensure the appropriate leadership in the event that any issues or problems arise. The dedicated staff and individuals who put the effort into making these trips "GO" are very important to us and our staff does a remarkable job at ensuring the comfort and peace of mind for all our group leaders and chaperones. We will go the extra mile to ensure you go to bed "worry free"- waking up in the morning feeling refreshed ready to hit the slopes after a delicious Vermont style country breakfast and hot cup of coffee!
Our dining hall is over 1,000 sq ft and can easily sit up to 100 guests for meals. Each group is assigned a meal time to coordinate with any other groups that may be staying with us. During the winter, on Saturday nights, the Dining Hall is transformed into a DJ Dance Party complete with refreshments and ice cream sundaes. The Hall is also perfect for meetings, banquets, special presentations, workshops, and common room area between meals.
Washroom and Baths
Each dorm has its own large dorm-style public washroom. All shower and toilet stalls are private and cleaned several times throughout the day. The chaperone rooms have their own semi-private bathrooms. There are also two public bathrooms on the first floor. All guests should bring their own towels, wash clothes and toiletries.
